City commissioners on Tuesday approved the addition of 300 acres of land into Winter Haven's service area from Lake Wales.

Commissioners voted 4-0 in favor of the annexations. Commissioner Yvonne Brooks was not at the meeting.

The first vote was for a 196-acre tract west of the CSX railroad crossing on the north side of State Road 60. A second vote annexed a 100-acre tract off Old Bartow-Lake Wales Road.

BFR Development, which owns the 100 acres, and Robert Stokes and his son, Jeffrey Stokes, who own the property on SR 60, had requested to be annexed into Winter Haven after Lake Wales officials said there were no immediate plans to provide water service to the area.
