HAINES CITY - A verbal argument escalated into a physical confrontation, resulting in one man getting 50 stitches near his throat.

The incident happened Friday in the area of 1500 N. 11th Street around 7 p.m.

According to the police report, Johnny Robinson Jr., 42, 1117 Ave. K, got a knife and cut the victim across the neck and throat area. The victim received more than 50 stitches to the wounded area and was treated and released from the Lakeland Regional Medical Center.

Robinson was later transported to the Polk County Jail and charged with aggravated battery.

Robinson has spent time in jail before and faced previous charges, such as violation of probation, possession of cocaine, battery and theft.

Fort Lauderdale man killed in accident

LAKE ALFRED - A Fort Lauderdale man was killed in an early Tuesday morning car wreck, one mile south of Lake Alfred.

At approximately 3:30 a.m., Anthony McMullen, 38, wasnÕt wearing a seat belt as he was driving a Nissan SUV south on County Road 557. He turned onto the west shoulder for an undetermined reason, said the report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The car began to rotate counterclockwise as it exited the roadway and traveled onto the west shoulder.

The car overturned and McMullen was ejected. The car came to a stop as it collided with a utility pole, the FHP reported.
