HAINES CITY - Police are looking for three men who are accused of shooting a 21-year-old Haines City man in the abdomen during an argument Tuesday night.

Ramon Veneroso was shot once by one of three men who approached him and a female friend about 9:10 p.m. Tuesday near South 20th Street and Grove Avenue, police said.

Veneroso was airlifted to Lakeland Regional Medical Center where he is in stable condition.

"Apparently the victim and his friend were walking when the three suspects got out of a car and asked Veneroso if he was ready to fight yet," said Detective Sgt. Jay Hopwood.

"One of the suspects pulled out a gun and shot at least twice, once in the air and once in Veneroso's direction and hit him in the lower abdomen," Hopwood said.

"Veneroso lived in the area, so he called his family and they called police," Hopwood said. "He was then airlifted to Lakeland Regional Medical Center."

Police are still investigating the shooting.

"There's more to this story than what we were told last night," Hopwood said.

"We will be re-interviewing people in the case."

The three suspects are described as black men between 18 and 22 years old who were in a dark, four-door vehicle.

One of the suspects is described as being heavyset, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, with several gold teeth. He was wearing a blue T-shirt and dark shorts.

The second suspect is described as wearing dark shorts and a dark T-shirt.

The third suspect is described as being tall with a thin build and wearing a white T-shirt.

No further description was available from the victim and witnesses.
