POLK CITY - Aurelio Ramos Alcantar, 33, has been positively identified as the man shot to death Sunday at a Polk City mobile home, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.

Detectives identified the slain man by his fingerprints, the Sheriff's Office said.

Alcantar, of Reynosa, Mexico, was previously identified as Marco Alcantair in a Sunday arrest affidavit, but that name had not been verified.

Alcantar was shot to death early Sunday by his girlfriend's estranged husband, 38-year-old Angel Sanchez, the Sheriff's Office said.

Sanchez was arrested hours after the shooting and charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder, the Sheriff's Office said.

Alcantar had been dating Melissa Sanchez, who was also shot Sunday, since February, the Sheriff's Office said.

Melissa Sanchez, 46, remains at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in stable condition, the Sheriff's Office said.

Detectives determined Alcantar was in the United States illegally but had family in Texas.

Melissa Sanchez told detectives that Saturday she and Alcantar were at her job at a Polk City truck stop when Angel Sanchez arrived. At his invitation, they went to the home on Country Trails Drive where Angel and Melissa Sanchez had lived throughout their marriage.

Early Sunday, Melissa Sanchez went to a back bedroom to lie down as the two men continued to talk and drink beer.

About 5 a.m., Alcantar came to the bedroom and Melissa Sanchez told him she wanted to leave, the affidavit said.

She told investigators that Sanchez came into the room, confronted Alcantar about his relationship with her and fired a .22-caliber handgun at Alcantar.

"Mrs. Sanchez stated Alcantar fell to the floor as Angel Sanchez then pointed the gun at her and shot her once in the neck. While Mrs. Sanchez was on the bed, she laid still and heard Angel Sanchez fire another shot. She said while she was laying still Angel stood over her and shot her again," the affidavit said.

After she heard her husband leave the mobile home, Melissa Sanchez made her way out the back door to a neighbor's home, the affidavit said.
