HAINES CITY - A 21-year-old Haines City man is recovering from a bullet wound to the abdomen following a shooting Tuesday night, police said.

HAINES CITY - A 21-year-old Haines City man is recovering from a bullet wound to the abdomen following a shooting Tuesday night, police said.
The Haines City Police Department responded to the shooting at 9:10 p.m. in the area of Grove Avenue and South 20th Street, according to police reports.

Ramon Veneroso, 21, of 139 S. 20th St., was walking in the area with a female acquaintance when the two were approached by three black males, police said.

There was an argument between Veneroso and the group, Haines City police reported. One member of the group asked Veneroso if he was ready to fight. Then the suspect pulled an unidentified type of handgun and fired at least two shots, according to police. One shot struck Veneroso in the abdomen.

Veneroso was airlifted to the Lakeland Regional Medical Center and was listed Wednesday in stable condition.

The suspects who confronted Veneroso were described as being between the ages of 18 and 22. They left the area in a dark, four-door vehicle.

One suspect is described as a heavyset male, about 5 feet, 6 inches tall with gold teeth and wearing a blue T-shirt and dark shorts. The second suspect wore dark shorts and a dark T-shirt. The third suspect was tall and thin and wore a white T-shirt.
