In response Shandale Terrell’s cry for unity in the United States [“We must reunite the United States," Nov. 15], the nation of peace and peace of mind sought in that article can be found; but I assert that his cry is aimed in the wrong direction.

Unity comes from and through sovereign God, not through a culture consisting of humanistic pride.

Through His word, God gives the definition of unity as well as the means to accomplish it. Ephesians 4:4-6 defines unity: “There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.”

The means through which this unity is accomplished is through the atonement for sin that the Son of God, Jesus Christ, made when He took the sin of the world (humanistic pride) on himself and paid the death penalty we humans were to pay: A death of eternal separation from God. When one puts their heartfelt faith in this fact and is willing to turn from their selfish existence and turn to God for their life, fully trusting in His promises of reconciliation, peace from God is attributed to them and unity can then be accomplished.

When people put their total faith and trust in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit of God indwells them and performs the desired unity of God through them. Go to God in sincere prayer and discuss with Him the truthfulness of this fact.
