KISSIMMEE – Kissimmee Osceola will advance to the first FHSAA Duals state wrestling tournament.

The Kowboys – a team that finished sixth in the state last year — turned back Lakeland in a 3A regional semifinal and then beat George Jenkins 61-16 to advance to the state tournament on Jan. 19-20 at their own gym.

Jenkins advanced to the regional final after beating St. Cloud 49-27 in an earlier semifinal. Top Eagles' performers included Dez Flowers going 2-0 at 170 with one pin and Sloan Cullifer going 2-0 at 182 – both wins by pin. Also, Trent Briddges was 1-1 at 195, getting a win against Osceola.

Lakeland lost its semifinal to Osceola 65-12 but the Dreadnaughts picked up all 12 of its points with pins. Kaleb Cook improved to 21-4 with a second-period pin at 145 and Tanner Howe is now 23-1 after getting a first-period pin at 220.

“It was good to see a team of that caliber at this point in the season,” Lakeland coach Mike Farley said. “Now we know who we have to beat for the individual tournament.”
